In fact it was more than interesting. It was f**king amazing! It was my first 200+ point week! That's right.
206 points to be precise.
And not only that but even more importantly than the amount of points made, was that with the exception of 3 trades, (One trade I took as an SOC 'Sell on Close' which didn't work out, and the other two I simply closed before I should've) I traded my strategy 100%! THIS is what is truly important about this week. Of course the points were gratefully received, but it was the discipline in adhering to my strategy which counts. Not only that, but I am finally beginning to accept, as a belief, my mantra if you like, which is -
My job when I trade is to make points. But I have to remember, I don't have to make ALL the points.
This is the foundational core belief which my trading mentality is being built upon. We can all look at previous trades within the glow of hindsight and lament on what could've been, but if you want to experience true freedom within your trading then this is a practice you must not undertake. Yes of course you should review your trading with a view to improving, but never chastise yourself for opportunities missed, because there will always be another opportunity. That's the beauty of the markets. If you miss a move, you miss a move. That's all that happened. Like buses or trains, another will be a long in a minute and you can simply get on that one.
So to celebrate this milestone, like I did with my first 100 point week I bought myself something to remind me of it. I wanted something I could have on my desk. Something I could see and touch that was a daily reminder. I have a habit when I am out walking, of picking up a stone, usually a smooth oval one and just feeling it in my fingers as I walk. It helps to keep me in the moment, to keep me present and not let my mind wonder to unimportant thoughts whilst I'm enjoying my surroundings. So I knew I wanted something similar. As I walked around the town I found myself in a crystal shop. I looked at the many many different crystals and their interesting meanings until I found one which resonated with what I wanted it to remind me of. Pyrite. I bought a £2.00 smooth rectangular piece, about 2cm x 1cm which now sits on the stand of my monitor. So every morning when I am trading from now on I can hold it in my hand, feel it's smoothed edges and remember what it represents. Yes, it represents my biggest trading week to date, but more importantly than that, it represents the importance of maintaining discipline, which above all else, is the number one fundamental component of your mindset if you want to be successful.
Not just at trading, but at anything.
